Music is my Heritage
Sub heading
Oct 2009 — March 2010
Music is my Heritage is a young person led project that explores how Black music and its heritage has positively influenced the area they live in. Held in North West Birmingham, an area rich in musical history, from early Reggae and Soul through to modern day grime and hip hop and newly built genres of Black music. Artists such as Steel Pulse, Apache Indian and UB40 have all learnt their trade in this part of the city.
The project will culminate in an audio book that will document the area’s black musical history in a contemporary, approachable and lively medium. Professional musicians including those from the Dub 2 Dubstep tour and local artists will work with 2 youth Groups in Birmingham to build a multi-media disc that documents the musical landscape of their city.
