Music is my Heritage
October 2009 - March 2010
Music is my Heritage is a young person led project that explores how Black music and its heritage has positively influenced the area they live in. Held in North West Birmingham, it is an area with a rich musical history - from early Regggae and Soul, through to moder day grime and hip hop. Artists like Steel Pulse, Apache Indian and UB40 have all leart their trade in this area.
The project will culminate in an audio book that will document the area's musical history in a contemporary, lively and approachable medium. Professional musicians including those from the Black Routes Dub 2 Dubstep tour and local artists work with two youth groups in Birmigham to build a multi-media disc that documents the musical landscape of their city.
