A collaborative project of voices from all over the world - from the Caribbean to Africa to Europe.
Directed and staged by Antoinette Lester in association with Birmingham Rep this all female group will use only simple percussion and their voices to weave the finest a cappella harmonies, celebrating the beauty of the human voice.
There will be a full associated education programme starting in October that will travel to all the tour venues. For more information about these, please check back and click here to visit the Learning section of this website, where more information will be uploaded shortly.
- Maureen Lilanda, or as she is fondly known in Zambia, Aunty Maureen, has been writing, singing and performing her blend of modern beats and rhythms mixed with the traditional sounds of Zambia for over twenty years now.
- She is lead singer with Zambian a cappella group AMASHIWI, and is a four-time recipient of the National Arts Council award for Best Female Artiste. She has performed with greats such as Oliver Mutkudzi and Baba Maal.
- She will be joined by Nawal, know as Voice of the Comoros, who sings in Arabic, French, English and Comoran. Reflecting her roots in the Comoros islands aka Islands of the Moon in the Indian Ocean, Nawal blends Arabic-Persian aesthetics with Bantu polyphonies, and Sufi trance into an acoustic music that is compelling and beautifully lyrical.
