Black Routes is proud to announce the UK tour by a real legend of African music. Tony Allen will be marking his 70th birthday and the 50th anniversary of Nigerian independence with a UK tour this autumn.

  • Known as the man who put the beat in Afrobeat, and Nigeria’s most influential musical export, his fusion of drum styles graced over 30 albums recorded with the great Fela Kuti.  He has gone on to work with a huge range of artists, reflecting the respect he inspires in other musicians: Manu Dibango, King Sunny Ade, Ray Lema. Jimi Tenor, Damon Albarn and Paul Simonon to name just a few.
